Based on the Joan Lindsay novel - not on a true story. Lindsay simply tried to create that impression and ever since people have tried to find an account in contemporeanous newspapers but did not succeed.
The end of Weirs film: Open end - Three Girls, Miranda, Marion, Irma and their French governess vanish, one of them returns but isn't able to give an explanation.Other mysteries happen which bring about the school's ruin....

It was a very long time ago but I think that no one ever found the girls and what had happened to them. If I remember right, this was based on a true story.

An all time Aussie classic.... Can't remember what happened to them... it's based on a true story. Think it might have been the Aborigines??
