They both have their benefits and their drawbacks. I've lived in both.
Benefits to the city: shopping, dining, entertainment, proximity to anything you might want to do. Availability of goods and services.
Drawbacks:
Pollution, noise, crime and violence
Benefits to the country:
Quiet, Nature, peace, seclusion, gardening
Drawbacks:
It's so far to go shopping, a good restaurant, or to the movies, it can be depressing.
My choice would be in a country setting about 10-15 minutes from a city.

I live in Paris and i dream of being in the countryside, but when i'm in the countryside i can't wait to be back home in Paris...it's a case of the grass is always greener on the other side or "i have straight hair but i want curls..." or vice versa, or at least it is for me...i think i'll have 4 houses, 1 in the city, 1 in the countryside, 1 in th mountains and 1 by the beach, there we go...sorted lol!

I wanted to live in the city, so I lived there. Then I wanted to live in the country so I lived there.
Then I noticed that here in the UK, the countryside is a man made landscape just like the city. The hedges, fields, woods, all created by men, hundreds of years ago and maintained by human control.
So now I want to live in the wilderness. But I can find a house there.

Well I live I live in the City, but would move out to the Country in the next few years.
The city is great if you want a mad pace of life, but if you wanna slow down, take things alittle slower, you really need to move to the countryside!

Suburbs, I like the bustle of the city at night, but couldn't live there. The countryside is too inaccessible to live in, have to drive everywhere.

countryside -- but within 200 km of the nearest big city, and with the option to go visit friends & family there once in a while.

I would definitely love to stay in the countryside. It would be great to live in the middle of all that beautiful scenery and away from all the noise and hustle and bustle. The peace and quiet and the freedom my children could have in the country has already got me thinking of moving out of town.
