There was a fund set up for relatives of all the victims of 9/11. Though it was set up by the government, it was funded mostly through donations. There were a few celebrities that made news when they gave large amounts money to the fund. There was even a telethon shortly after 9/11 to raise money for it. Many other countries also gave money.
