We just moved and the best boxes were the ones in grocery stores that 6 gallon milk containers had been delivered in. they have handles on the sides --and we asked and a local grocery store was happy to get rid of them . We would check every couple of days and get a few. We did this over a period of time as packed over a period of 3-4 months.

The cardboard dumpsters in the back of stores! They're going ot throw them away, and the only thing in those dumpsters are the boxes. Sears has lots of boxes in odd shapes to fit everything that you don't want to dissassemble. Just ask them if they have boxes they can give away. They'll probably be happy to-- and if they say no, do what we did when we moved : We went after the store had closed (like at midnight) and got boxes from the dumpster. :()

I get lots of boxes behind the dollar store in my area. They have three dumpsters that they use just for cardboard. It's not a smelly dumpster where there's food. You do have to fold the boxes back up, though, but they have lots of sizes. Also you can get some smaller never used boxes from the post office for smaller things, free.

If you get "free boxes" from stores, make SURE there are no ROACHES in them!!!
A lot of stores have them, and you certainly dont want to have "pets" as soon as you unpack and find that you brought critters with you...
I would go to supermarkets, small convinent stores, or even electrical appliance stores for boxes... (small stores will have more managable small boxes, where the electrical appliance and larger stores will have the bigger boxes...)
I wish you well..

Boxes are hotels for roaches. So, be careful where you get them, a food store would not be a good place to get clean boxes.

Liquor stores have the sturdiest boxes. Some of them have partitions, good for packing glasses.

If you know anyone who works in an office ask them if they can save their paper boxes for you. They are sturdy. They are good for dishes and nic nacs especially.
