The UN is a powerless organization that should be disbanded. The original intent has been discarded and polarization of national politics makes the UN ineffective. The member nations of the security council block actions because of political positions not the merit of the actions requested. Kofi Annan has used his position to build wealth and permitted abuse by those who contributed to his well being.

The UN has no real power and relies on consensus and is too afraid of upsetting anyone to be really affective. The George W on the other hand has a form of mandate (chads not withstanding), has a standing military and is not reliant on reaching a consensus between very different cultures in order to make a decision...

its a 50-50 position. un for its reliance on the us as the biggest donor nation on contribution to un's funds, is ineffective in overridding the us position on many issues. oso the power in the security council in the hands of 5 or rather six countries, is never fair and equitable in deciding the world affairs; more nations with veto power shouldbe added, and more nations should be included for a say in decision-making in a world body.
on the other hand, the us cannot overlook the sentiment and mood at home on sending us soldiers to fight war for foreign countries anymore, and the money alone has to come from its allies to fight any modern war as indicated by the iraqi war.
when you drink coffee for a period of time, you may also want a change to different beverage. when you dislike bush for beating round the bush on the lies on weapon of mass destruction as a pretext to launch a war on iraq, you may not want to see him in his third term in office. rich flavorful coffee or lushy bush new maen will take over their office, it is not our worry for now.
