Floppy Disks and Hard Disk Drives have been preprogrammed at the factory with some Information on them. It is very likely you will make them useless and unusable by bringing any strong magnetic field in close proximity of these items.
This includes magnets and motors and anything that has a transformer in it.
My experience has been that most magnetic fields must be just about right next to or touching the item to do damage. Also the more time the contact is made, the more likely damage will occur.
Anything that distorts the picture on your monitor, will also distort the information on a floppy or hard drive if brought near to it.

Sure, put it near any magnet like the speaker in the top of a cheap deasktop radio. They advertise the computer speakers as "shielded" for a reason. They used to sell bulk erasures that was nothing more than a elecro-magnetic ring you passed the floppies through.

Yes. The data is magnetized and you can de-polarize it by putting a magnet near it.
