Most of us were surprised when we watch bill boards contests and the world music award and find that a rapper hitz or rankz number 1..well 2 be honest i was surprised alilbit(even though i'm a hiphop fan).Thiz style of music started in the streetz in the earliest 80s when the sugarhill gang and grandmasterflash were at their finest(kurtis blow also). It wasn't that great like todays but they were the source of rap(hiphop)and thankz 2 them either. Also in 1994 when biggie smallz (a.k.a notorious b.i.g)said in his song juicy"duha duha u never thought that hiphop will take it this far"i felt like hiphop started 2 take a few stepz forward.
I'm not saying all that on behalf of hiphop but letz face it guys...i mean i'm not a rock fan but can't deny also that roc and roll(as well as rock)ruled every thing(even pop) in the 50s,60s,70s and even 80s.Todays rock is not like the classic ones but there are still few great artists such as green day,u2,linkin park...etc what do u think and thankx.

I agree and it's something I've told others as well. Rap and Hip-Hop is definitely at a peak. I feel like it has been going down hill slowly though for the past year or two. I love rap but I think some changes or new artists need to come around or it will go the ways of 80's metal.

I'm a 60's person. I think this is the era of hiphop but feel a change coming. It has ruled long enough and I think people are ready for a new musical movement. I really didn't think that hiphop would be so universally popular. Hiphop could evolve but is stuck in a rut without being as relevant as in its early days. Very little new and exciting.

As a female, I am so sick of the role women have chosen to accept and embrace with few exceptions.

hiphop definitely rules the media now. do you notice that when watching hollywood movies, where applicable, hiphop music is played. like in the opening credits etc.

and yeah, gone are the days where the rock songs ruled! the rock music now is so fused with other genres that the boundaries differentiating other genres with it are blurred.

that said, just sit back and enjoy the evolution (still) of music!
cheers!
