Yes it is possible to get pregnant if you have sex 5 days before your probable ovulation date. Since sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days, if you have sex a few days before you ovulate then the sperm can still fertilize your egg when you do ovulate. Do you have a regular 28 day cycle? If so then you should ovulate about 14 days after the start of your period but that doesn't necessarily mean you will ovulate exactly 14 days after so the best thing to do is try to have sex on your most fertile days which would be like five days before your predicted ovulation date thru five days after your predicted ovulation date.

It worries me to see all these woman asking all of these basic questions about their bodies and their cycles….and then getting all these different answers – and usually most of these answers are WRONG!
This is my standard answer......... go get a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive. My Doctor recommended it to me and after 1 year of trying I got the book. It worked the very next month. It turns out that my timing was wrong due to mis-information. I hope it helps you, too! It's not only about getting pregnant. It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths!

It could happen, but the chances are VERY low. The average a sperm can survive inside a woman is 2 days. I believe saying 5/6 days is pushing it. I woulnd't worry about it too much, unless you miss your period then take a test.

Yes because - as you say - it is a probable ovulation time, and semen lives for at least two days in your warm and cosy invironment....

Quite possibly as the sperm can survive a few days in the womb depending on how fit they are etc.

It's possible but perhaps less likely. This is what some call the "rhythm method". Read more about it at
