Once the politicians saw that it was a nice house they thought we have got to put a stop to this, we cant have anyone living in a nice house. So they built a motorway next door. Because they said if we have anyone having a nice life we are not in control of them, so we must put a stop to it.

...built sometime in the early 1800s. For generations, the Hamills had lived there, but now there was only one Hamill left.

Jefferson Hamill was 87 years old but as spry as a 17 year old... and just about as mischievous. He knew that, though he might have fun trying, there wasn't enough time to build the dynastic family he had always been planning. So he had done the next best thing.

Jefferson had long been watching the families of his neighbors. He was social and was always willing to share tea, biscuits and gossip with them. But over the years the neighborhood had changed. It was still rather affluent but the camaraderie of the people had slowly slipped away as family pressures, financial stress and disappointed expectations poked about.

He wanted to change that... to bring back the liveliness of the past without giving up the amenities of the present. But Jefferson was more of a prankster. He was much better at getting your goat or even making you laugh at yourself than he could ever be about making a lasting impression or actually contributing to someone else's life.

BUT, after spying on his neighbors for so many years, he had a good idea -- in his opinion -- exactly what they needed. And he was going to see that they got it in spades.

.. in the middle of a park.

All the local kids would come to the house and play, because it appeared that is what the owner wanted.

She was a harmless old woman who walked with a zimmer frame, but she always managed to bake cakes for all.

Even the parents, who always told their kids not to talk to strangers, didn't mind the kids playing here.

One dark day, told too far before Halloween, 3 kids went missing. And the last place they were since was going into the little old ladies house.

The parents of the 3 kids and the family friends stormed the house, and found the old lady collapsed on the floor, in the corner of the room the three kids were huddled together, and on their face and hands was a deep red syrup, one of the motherspulled her child to her, and wiped at the syrup, and that was when she knew. The little old lady hadn't fallen. NO

Inspecting the old lady closer, she noticed a pool of blood surrounding her..... and a knife protruding from her stomach.

Niether child said a word, each looked innocently at their parent, and their parents tooks them up carried them outside, and told them that the old lady wasn't there, and the kids must have sneaked in somehow!

.....a secret gateway to the Land of Heart's Fulfilment. Many people tried to find the way in but very few succeeded.
The people who failed were sad, but eventually they would give up and go and get a job, work hard, get married and have children. Sometimes they were happy and sometimes they were sad.
The people who succeeded found themselves in the most beautiful land, full of flowers and bird song. There they received their heart's desire. After that they felt the most extreme misery. A strange empty feeling invaded them. They could no longer feel desire, they could no longer want or admire, they could no longer love or hate.
They sat themselves down on the ground among the beautiful flowers that they could no longer appreciate, staring into nothingness. They neither ate nor drank, they dried up and turned to dust which drifted down around the roots of the beautiful flowers. And the flowers bloomed more beautifully.

It was a real paradise for animals and birds, and the wise woman who lived in the house always had food for them. All the children loved to pick the fruit and the wise woman made lilac scented oil, and her herbs could cure anything. Everyone around lived to a healthy old age.
