i feel as if you and i have the same points of view. I wrote my whole term paper last year on stem cell research and a great deal of my paper had to do with Bush's opinion on stem cell research. I really dont understand that man only a minute percentage of the "embryos" that are stored get adopted and therefore the rest just sit in storage. Stem cells can help with cancer, diabetes, piralysis, and so many other diseases. They may even be able to find a cure for HIV/AIDS through stem cells and yet Bush rather have the people of his nation die than put his personal beliefs to the side. The "embryos" if you can even call them that are NOT human life yet therefore you are not destroying a human life so it is not unconstitutional. I agree with stem cell research 110%.
And for all those whos say bush didnt ban the research he only banned fedral funding....Get a clue without fedral funding these companies cannot afford to do the research needed to actually make a significant breakthrough. And also embryonic have a larger range of what they can cure than adult stem cells therefore embryonic stem cells are better. And the embryos are not grown to be aborted and used..ever heard of in vitro fertilization? The results leave more than one embryo and the rest are put into a freezer storage. Lastly, Bush banned the use of any other embryos than those that research is being done on already.

Why are you sending your brain cells to an early death by not using them?
Bush is the first President to ever fund stem cell research. He is only stopping funding on new embryonic stem cell lines. He is funding research on adult stem cells and existing embryonic lines. Furthermore, the governent is not the only source of money in the universe. There are these other things called universities, and private companies, and they have money too. Nobody is stopping them from funding or doing research.
Terrorists are killing our young people on the streets of Iraq. At least there, they have guns and can shoot back, unlike 9/11 where they were just slaughtered.
Nobody is killing our poor and uninsured citizens. Even people without insurance are treated.
You don't have any clue about real life. Please take advantage of the "information age" and educate yourself.

Lets take your misconceptions , one at a time.
1. Stem cell research is ongoing , But without Federal funding.
It is not banned.
2.Todays elderly will not benifit from the research as it will take years to come up with any possible cures .
3. We have Medicare and Medicaid ( federal programs ) , We have Drug companies giving away medication to those who can't afford it, Hospitals and Doctors writing off their charges or taking small monthly payments.
No one who needs it is denied medical treatment .
Studies have shown that buying an insurance policy would be cheaper than the tax increase needed for Government run health care.
4. Drunk drivers , fires , drowndings , and falls kill more people everyday than we're losing in Iraq, an average of 2 per day .
I know , some people think that GOVERNMENT should do everything for them , all their lives . they don't want the responsibility for their own lives. They want someone else to do it and someone else to pay for it .

First of all, you are being DISHONEST. Bush has not stopped stem cell research. He will not allow federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, which requires creating a viable "fetus" and then KILLING it, because you see, the only way to get embryonic stem cells is from a LIVING embryo. This veto on federal funding has not stopped private sector funding or research in any way.
Bush continues to fund ADULT stem cell research, which shows far more promise than embryonic stem cells and has already found successful treatments for 72 known conditions and diseases, while embryonic stem cells have provided no such treatments at all.
I find it interesting that the liberal left are more interested in screaming about and trying to push embryonic stem cell research which, again, in all the years it has been being researched, has not shown ANY promise whatsoever. Not one treamtent for illness or condition has been found at all. Adult stem cell research, on the other hand, has already provided this and shows great promise. Could it be that Embryonic stem cell research furthers the cause of abortion and makes it more palatable to those sitting on the fence?
The foregoing is fact and easily researchable and proveable, if you're really interested in the truth, and not just hearing yourself talk.

What's your problem?
Did your momma take you off the titties too soon?
Get your fact right before you open your stupid mouth.
Bush did NOT ban research.
It's still perfectlyu legal to do your own research. Just that the federal government ain't gonna pay for it.
If it's such a cure-all, why isn't the private sector jumping on it?
You're so stupid.
Anything to throw stones at our President. You can't even stay on topic!!
You start with stem cells, and then move on to the war? How are the two connected, other than by your hatred of our President??
What a moron.

Dear God in Heaven I hope your parents, not all the tax payers of whichever state is unlucky enough to have you in it's census, are paying for your education. Also I am praying that God helps all you aren't in the medical field of study. Since I am a medical person here goes. 1)elderly people should not be the target group for any type of stem cell research. IF stem cell research were a viable form of research (which it's not because it requires dead babies to obtain the stemcells, and don't waste my time about fetus' age and humans aren't human until they are actually born.) the only things that I could see it used for is for diesases which affect very young people, possibly in childhood and early adulthood. 2). As we age our bodies deteriorate, it's simply a fact of nature. We do not live forever, their have been some good examples movie wise lately of the problems with cloning i.e. "The Island". Illness is a fact of life, we are discovering new ways to fight disease on a daily basis, but it should not be done at the expense of other humans. 3). If stem cell research is okayed the abortion rates will go up even higher than they are now, and the reason for it will be that people will begin to profit financially from it. I promise at some point extremely wealthy people will find women and pay them it have abortions so that they can harvest the stemcells for a family member with a genetic disease. 4). Poor uninsured citizens? The poor uninsured citizens that you speak of can not be turned down for health services. They have meidcare and medicaid and other govt. programs too numerous to mention that they can utilize. 5). Lastly, let me pose a question to you all those people on those planes, except for the terrorist, were just trying to get home, get to a business meeting, get to a vacation spot, see family members;all the people in the Pentagon and in the Twin Towers were just going about their day to day activities. What woudl you have seen any President do after we were so viciously attacked on our own soil? Just stand there with egg on their face and say "Oops, that was a real tradgedy wasn't it?" He had to stand up to the terrorist and what they did. I have several friends and a niece who have served in Irag and Afghanistan to protect this country and your right to go to the college of your choice, whine about life, and be all touchy feely over issues like stemcell research. So college boy, I will accept your silly liberal "pontificating" about stemcell research, but until you've strapped on a gun and been in harms way to provide safety and freedom of speech for someone like yourself, SHUTUP!!!

Did you know that we already have unlimited access to stem cells? Yes, it is referred to a Non embryonic stem cells. These are readily available from Adult stem cells and the stem cells from fully developed new born umbilical cords. There has been NO documentation or studies brought forth to say that Embryonic stem cell research will produce different results. So the President is not sentencing anyone to death. I recommend you do a little more research before you begin screaming that the sky is falling.

Because it has to do with the anti-abortion platform of his party. Specifically, stem cells are from aborted fetuses and the party is against abortion so encouraging stem cell research tacitly encourages abortion and that is considered morally wrong. The bill vetoed and the ones passed by Congress differ slightly in the types of stem cells. The legislation passed, as I understand it, was for stem cells that would be destroyed. The one vetoed was for stem cells that could be a product of an abortion which would be considered taking a unborn life.
Hope that helps.
Good Luck

Graduate and join the real American working force before coming here and spouting your liberal professor's lies. College in no way shape, form or matter reflects the real world and how real people live. When you get older & wiser you will realize this. Bush is following the will of the majority of American by not allowing funding for stem cell research. As far as the troops - thank them for protecting your right to display your ignorance.

Again you are totally wrong. President George W. Bush instituted the first federal funding for research on 22 lines of embryonic stem cells. These stem cells and the funding are still available. His recent veto prevents, for now, federal funding for research on an unlimited number of additional lines of embryonic stem cells at public expense. History has shown almost no positive results from research on embyonic stem cells anyway. Adult stem cells have been the answer.
Many Americans strongly object to unlimited embryonic stem cell research on moral grounds. Why should they have their pockets picked? Let research on additional lines of embryonic stem cells be supported by private funding from those who want to do so. How much money will you contribute?
Based on answers posted so far, it looks to me like most people are sick of reading your garbage.
