I've been told that dehydration causes contractions and sometimes preterm labor. Diuretics, of course, increase urination which increase the chances you'll become dehydrated. On the other hand I have read that drinking tea is ok when pregnant. Can someone clear this up?

my concern isn't about the caffeine...according to babycenter.com most researchers now believe that, although caffeine does cross the placenta, moderate amounts (less than 300 milligrams a day) won't harm your baby. That's about what you'd get from two or three 8-ounce cups of coffee or six cans of cola. My source: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/pregnancynutrition/3955.html

tea is fine, but opt for decaf. try to drink twice as much water as you do tea... but don't think of it that way, or you'll get overwhelmed and give up... just get a large cup (i like the 'to go' cups from pizza inn) and once you've drank the decaf tea, just keep filling it up with water for the rest of the day. that way you've drank your recommended amount in no time, and don't have to keep track of how many little 8 oz. glasses there were.

and about the part that dehydration causing contractions and preterm labor, yes. my husband is a paramedic, and he said that on 98% of the pregnancy related calls that he has run, it has been because the woman hasn't been drinking enough water and has gotten dehydrated. when he's tried to start I.V.s, he can't even find a vein. (the other 2% have been automobile related... the women have been ejected from the vehicles because they were afraid to "hurt the baby" by wearing the seat belt... unfortunately, they lost their babies. please buckle up properly shoulder belt across your sternum, and lap belt under the belly, across your hips. save both of your lives!)

It is okay. I had an occasional cup, but worried more about the tannins than the caffeine. Tannins are iron blockers, so only drink coffees and teas between meals not with food and NEVER take your multivitamin with tea or coffee. And for everyone who said to switch to decaf, decaf has more chemicals in it and still has the tannins.

The best kind of tea to drink while pregnant is Red Raspberry Leaf Tea (RRLT). It has to be RR LEAF Tea, not just raspberry tea. This RRLT will help to strengthen and tone the mother's uterus so that labor will be easier. Many women drink it regularly through their entire pregnancy.

There are also "pregnancy teas" that you'll see in the health food shops.

i could say stay removed from that stuff. I enjoyed Pepsi Max up till i found out it has loopy ingredients/preservatives, synthetic sweeteners, aspartame (a synthetic sweetener)... and of direction caffeine. even although there are drinks that are 'weight loss software' and have not any sugar, they're replaced with the aid of the undesirable stuff like colouring. attempt and evade it, even Pepsi could be extra effectual than Pepsi Max to drink. shrink your self to perchance a million-2 cans an afternoon.

make sure the tea is decaf tea. You can not put caffeine in your system while pregnant. If you want tea then it is ok, but make sure you are drinking other fluids too.
