We are having a service for my best friend and I want to read this poem I wrote for him but wonder if it is appropriate... I was fortunate to share 8 years of my life with an angel... and I want to share a piece of my heart and how special are relationship was... what do you think?
An oasis in the desert of life
I willingly drown in the deep blue pools of your eyes
Your dedication knew no boundaries of distance …
Your commitment no marching on of time
A rock to rest upon during the treacherous storms
I sheltered in the protective bower of your arms
Always there to protect…. without question of consequence
Boundless and Complete was your love…..
with none of the trappings of passion or foolishness of lust
Acceptance was your cloak
Purity of mind and heart your mantle
Trust and Friendship your only intention
You always gave without taking ….
Always loved without asking……
Sometimes I believe you were the love of my life…..

You are a very talented writer, and the poem would be more than appropriate. It is beautiful. I was fortunate enough to be able to read a poem I wrote for my beloved grandmother at her funeral, and it gave me a sense of closure, and a way to say goodbye to her so that I was not only expressing my feelings, but many people came up to me later and thanked me because it expressed how they felt about her, and it gave them the same closure and ability to say farewell. Thank you for sharing your poem, and remember, we are only on this earth for a little while, but the people we meet along the way travel with us in our hearts, even long after they are gone

First of all, I am very sorry for your loss. Second, this is a beautiful poem. Now on to your question, I have a few myself. From your poem, it seems that you had feelings beyond friendship for your best friend. I mean absolutely no offense, but are you opposite genders or same sex? The ONLY reason I ask is if you are same sex, it may not be appropriate depending on the feelings of his family regarding homosexuality. If you are heterosexual, I don't see how this poem could be inappropriate.
