It's serious matter - not a question of saving face for the US.
I was against the Iraq war before it even got started, so I don't have any problem with admitting that we were wrong. I believe we were wrong in Vietnam too, and I'm probably the same age as you are or older. So, why should our brave American soldiers have to die for less than nothing? It's a disgrace and we need to get out of there very soon. Set a deadline and keep it. Billions of dollars were spent on this tragic mistake, that is no justification for us to keep on the wrong path. If out military is so powerful, why can't we even help our own people in a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina? No! It's time to admit our mistake!

It looks like 30 years after the fact that leaving Vietnam was the right choice.
Compare it to places that we fought and did not leave like Guantanamo. Germany Japan Korea
I understand that keeping bases all around the world is good business. But when you compare Vietnam to Korea I think leaving worked out better than staying.
A massive Joint Force Base in Basra would be a good Idea. Maintain a Navy presence to protect the oil tankers. and Air power ready to scramble. Along with a Predator drone operation Hub. It would allow the Army to leave Saudi Arabia
Halliburton could get the contract to both build the Basra base in Southern Iraq. This would make corrupt politicians happy. And Halliburton could decontaminate the Saudi bases after the Army left. Since the Saudis think of us as disgusting pigs we would need to clean the sand after we left.
This defeats AlQuida's prime argument that American Infidels are on Holy Ground (Saudi Arabia) Defeats the US occupation of Iraq argument. Enables the Government to not "Cut-N-Run" while at the same time it maintains a presence to protect the Oil investments.

This is not Vietnam. We overtook Iraq, supervised the country's recovery and first round of elections. We supported their own arming of a national police force. There are also countries in the immediate vicinity whose terrorists come in droves to Iraq just to fight against American military. There are so many differences!
Take a look at the American military presence in other countries, whose situations more accurately reflect the situation in Iraq, and you'll get a better picture on the long-term American military/political perspective on when to pull out. Even those federal politicians who are yelling the most publicly about pulling out of Iraq know full well that an immediate and complete pullout would leave more damage in the end than a slow trickle.
Oh, and look what happened when we pulled out too soon from Vietnam...

Well both of the previous c n r war didn't involved oil, with world reserves depleting and no viable fuel in place and americans dependency on cars, usa certainly can't afford to lose this ground not unless an eruption of war against US on three front is launched , China-taiwan,North korea-Japan/south korea,Iran-Iraq
But anyway even without this,a c- n- r is possible, with a new presidential candidate out to court voters, american's ever increasing mortality rate, average traditional american's enough- for-the-day wavering dertermination, losing ground and losing lives is nothing new after all.

Bush has lied. There were/are no weapons of mass destruction. The U.S. has brought mass destruction to the Iraqi people. Over 130,000 Iraqis killed by the U.S. so far and still counting. Almost 3,000 American Service personnel dead. The whole conflict is wrong. Why did the U.S. pay Saddam for so many years? We in America have so many problems. The real terrorists in this country are the drug dealers, murderers and politicians.
Bring the troops home to defend our borders and eliminate the drugs!

The pullout is underway. The Democratic is making the "cut n Run" strategy the cornerstone of their strategy to reclaim the congress and the presidency. When they take over, the USA will withdraw, and our citizens will no longer be safe.

Personally, I think Bush will pull out of there once all the oil is gone.
Anyone who thinks he actually cares about the people of Iraq is pretty naive.
