The AAP actually recommends AGAINST routine circumcision, yet many people in the USA still do it.
Personally, we did not circumcise our child. I wouldn't do it to a girl so why would I do it to a boy?
Teaching proper hygeine and safe sex practices "fixes" all the problems that circumcision is looking to "fix."

Well, it doesn't. But it hurts like hell, sometimes they turn blue. So I would insist on being present to ensure that a proper anesthetic was given if I felt it was worth the benefits, which it does have. Mainly, circumcision helps prevent diseases [it has been shown to significantly reduce the incidence of AIDS, e.g.], makes for easier hygiene, and avoids the problems that can occur with the foreskin later in life.
But I am not an advocate of it - it is not really anything necessary at all. I defend it for those who wish to have it done, as long as they ensure the baby gets proper anesthesia. The lack of anesthesia is the fault of doctors, who had thought, stupidly, that babies don't feel pain, of all the dingbat ideas, and who just kept not giving anesthesia because that's what they always did....

Medical data suggests that circumcision lowers the risk of contracting vernal diseases, penile cancer, and other infections of the gential region.
Plus the fact that certain religions, like Judaism, require it.

Reuters, July 26, 2005
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Circumcising men can help protect them from the AIDS virus, researchers said Tuesday after finishing the first study that tried using the procedure specifically to prevent infection.
But United Nations health officials cautioned that more trials were necessary before they would recommend this as a method to protect against AIDS.
The circumcised men were 65 percent less likely to become infected with the deadly and incurable virus, the researchers told the International AIDS Society Conference in Rio de Janeiro.

Let the boy have his decision. In most cases it will also effect his sexual life at maturity. Some ladies prefer it cause it's much different than being without one but it's solely up to the kiddo so let him have his decision.

No. Considering that in this day and age there's no real benefit to circumcision, I think I'd let him decide if he wanted it done when he's older.
