totally normal. So long as her water hasnt broke.
This is how labor starts. A few days ahead, with little spurts of contractions. Its all part of the baby getting in prosition, the cervix thinning and the hormones that induce labor being produced.
Encourage her to stay active, and to check with her doctor to see how much, if any, she is dialated.
Walking is the best thing she can do for herself right now, it will help the baby move against the cirvix, and help her body prepare for labor, and ease labor when it does come full force.
When her water breaks, or when her contractions dont stop and get to about 3-2 minutes apart its time to hit the maternaty ward :)

I am having the same problem..After going to the labor and delivery dept and being monitored, AND sent home I decided to wait until I was bleeding or my water broke..I am only 32 weeks, and my 4 yr old was a preemie as well, yet I have been on pre-term labor medication for almost a month..I am SOOO frustrated and just ready for all this to be over so I can have my tubes tied...lol....This will be my 3rd, I do know there is a chance of the baby's lungs not being developed, and that scares the snot out of me, I would rather wait, however, how long can a person take being in pain?Especially when there is not much they can do, and I don't feel comfortable taking pain pills while pregnant...
Good Luck to both of you....Maybe she should call her OB/GYN and see what they say...

We were in and out of labor&delivery several times with Braxton Hicks contractions. We were told that when the contraction start I should lay on my side and drink plenty of water. If the contractions went away after an hour, it was false labor. If I had more then 6 contractions in an hour and they didn't go away, I was told to call the doctor. It can never hurt to go in and get monitored for a while.
Good luck!

My wifes did slow down for hours. The OBGYN broke her water. With my second child contractions where 5-6 minutes apart for hours, then went to 10 minutes or so apart for almost TWO DAYS!!!!! Our children all came more than a week early too!!! Always call your doctor. (period) Seriously, he'll know not to plan golf trip very far away for the next couple days. Our doctor had us go in when contractions where consistently 5 minutes apart and painful for like an hour, or sooner if they got closer together. Each doctor probably has their own style.
Sorry, didn't read the question perfectly. GOOD LUCK!!!! Congratualtion! You could post baby stats when you pick me as best answerer!!!

This happens a lot. It's just Braxton Hicks contractions so she could still have a week or two to go yet.
It will more likely to be the real thing if the contractions are a sequenced amount of time apart (e.g. instead of 12 mins then 8 mins then 13 mins etc they should go down steadily 6 mins then 6 then 5 etc).

She is having false labor pains but if she is due next week then expect a baby any day now. I started having those labor pains on Monday. I went walking and my real labor toke place on Wednesday morning around 2:30 am. He was born Wednesday night.

This happens a lot before a woman goes into labor. It's not concidered labor, it's concidered, "false labor". You will know she is in active labor when the contractions are consistant for a longer period of time and she cannot walk through her contractions

NOPe the baby is teasing her....only when it keeps getting worse and then the head starts to come out is it real. The heat is making people have lots of contractions, but not enough to make them stay in labor.

Sounds like she was having some "practice contractions" getting her body ready.
When it's the real thing they will be pretty regular, get closer together, get longer, and get more intense as they go along.
