The thermostat is set to cool the whole day and night and keep temp at 78F. During the day everything seems fine...Fan in attic runs and unit outside runs as well. Air is blowing out of vents at 64F. At night 8-9pm...It starts to blow hot air(84F+)...Fan in attic is running but unit outside is not running. We had a tech come in twice cleaned the coils and said everything is running perfect.

Any suggestions out there? Could it be that once the air temperature outside goes below the temperature inside it starts to malfuction?

Check with a better air conditioning company. Sounds like he didn't check the thermostat or anything else, just cleaned the coils. Sounds like the moisture at night is messing it up. May need the dryer unit to be replaced. Talk to friends, etc. and see whom they have fix their air conditioning problems. Also the air coming out is only 64F seems too high. You may need some refrigerant recharge there too. I think your A/C company is screwed up. Find a better company, and you should be ok.

Do you have your fan (inside circulation fan) set to on instead of auto? This would make the circulation fan runn constantly, even when the thermostat isn't calling for cooling. You may in this case actually blow warm air because the ductowrk in the attic picking up the heat from the attic.

To me it seem that you have a t-stat problem. If you have a digital setback t-stat check your time settings that you have on the t-stat. There are usually four to five settings on the setback t-stat that controls the temperature for morning (AM when you get up), daytime, evening, Bedtime (PM). When you say that at 8/9 PM you start loosing your set temperature in the house, then it tells me that your settings are set wrong. Check the instruction book that came with your t-stat and reprogram your t-stat again to what is comfortable for you and your family.
Remember that what controls the heating and cooling of your home is the t-stat itself. The problem is within the t-stat. It may be necessary to update the t-stat if the problem continues.
Good Luck

the outside fan is your condensing unit. if that fan is not running at night you are not getting rid of the heat from the unit and you will get no cooling . a ac tech needs to see why the fan is not running at night time. with you condensor fan running ok your unit should work fine. good luck.
