When i tried veet waxing strips at home on my legs they didn't work at all and instead left me with this really wierd and uncomfortable rash that faded away after a few hours. In a couple of days time i have decided to go and get my upperlip waxed and i'm worried that it may have the same effect (especially as i am getting the bus home and it may be rather embaressing). Does anyone know wether the rash could be simply from the product or wether it will happen with wherever i wax and with whatever type of waxing product i use?

All waxing will leave a red rash for a little while. It just depends on the sensitivity to your skin. It's likely that your skin could be red to pink in colour for at least 10minutes or more, like I said, depending on your sensitivity. Remeber, not only are you removing the hair, but you're removing the top layer of skin, which brings out the pinker, newer skin underneath. The rash could have been from the product itself or just from yanking the skin off. Usually though a rash, rash (not just the new skin) will have bumps to go along with it and not go away that quickly. If you're having your eyebrows done at a salon, my suggestion is to do these things:

A) At the salon, make sure they don't "double dip" the wax sticks. You might not have nasties on your skin, but what about the skanky chick before you that they did the same thing with? This is a grounds to leave or speak to the salon manager.

B) Most salon waxing kits include an aloe soother gel and a moisturizer, this helps the redness go down quicker. I get very red, but within about 10 minutes it's down to a more subtle pink tone.

C)Wear big sunglasses (when you get eyebrows done) if you have to and don't be embarassed if your lip is red or pink! We women do crazy stuff for beauty, and if other women don't get that, they're not all there. And if men don't, well, they're men, they tend to only appriciate the end result anyway.

Any coloration will go down with ice or aloe within an hour at most usually if the proceedure was done correctly.

Good luck with it sweetie!

With waxing you have to be very careful with how you apply the strip in the direction of hair growth and pull it back in the opposite direction. The rash is probably due to pulling so hard and not being able to get the hair off.
I would suggest going to an Indian beauty salon and getting your upper lip threaded - there wont be a rash, just might go a little pink, but you can put ice on it or if u wait about 10mins at the salon afterwards it will go away.
I once had a rash too when I tried waxing my upper lip, but that was at home. Never try these things at home if you haven't got the experience!

I waxed my lip a few times and had to quit. I have black hair and it's coarse. I was left with a red lip, ingrown hair bumps, and I started to develop a discoloration of the skin above my lip. A darker shade. They say black hair has bigger follicles and dirt and bacteria can settle in the pours. If you have sensitive skin I suggest you don't do it. I use Sally Hensons facial hair remover. Don't leave it on too long. It works for me. But as far as anyone knowing you got your lip waxed. Unless it's a few hours after the wax it will be red/pink and noticeable. The price we women have to pay for beauty.
