Hitchcock was the master -- no one, even today, does it better.
Psycho was a classic. As was Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Birds, and To Catch A Thief.
Brian DePalma also made a few good suspense movies.Try Body Double, Dressed to Kill and of course, Carrie (suspense/horror).

Seems to be "Spellbound" by Sir Alfred Hitchcock / 1945 ?
With Gregory Peck and Frau Bergmann ...
There is "classical suspense" · because first of all nobody
has the slightest idea what's going on ... and what's wrong
with that new doctor ... and those dreams. The dream-pictures
were designed by Salvador D A L I !!!
( ... of course I like "Psycho" and "The Birds" too ·
but this has nothing to do with "Suspense" .... )

Go with Psycho. Definitely an improvement over The Birds.

Hitchcock is one of my favorite movie directors of all time. My personal favorites of his are "Rear Window" and "Shadow of a Doubt"
Both are great movies. Another from that era you might like is "The Third Man".
You really should check out Psycho. It's a classic.

rear window-one of his best works but overshadowed by psycho and the birds which he is best known for. Check out rear window with Jimmy Stewert. Great flick!
