They will recover from the damage the salary cap done to them last season.

Boston Bruins.

New management, new coach, you have some young hungry guys coming in and some good veteran talent lined up. Offloading a couple more overpaid freeloaders would help, but they're off to a good start with the guys they've signed.

I predict a complete attitude change and a serious step in the right direction for the Bruins. Maybe not much in the way of cup contention yet -- it's a very mixed team right now and they'll need time to come together and gel.

In a year or two, hard core contenders. The new NHL is about speed and garden variety hard work, with a technical, fast game. They're making steps in the right direction.

It's a little early but I'd have to say the Vancouver Canucks. This is a team that last year people thought would be a contender, but underachieved and caused the firing of a good coach. During the offseason they improved their D-fence and Goal, although at the expense of O-fence. I think that's the kind of team you look for, when looking for improving teams.

Also, Min, CBJ, Bos, and Pit should also show much improvement.

I'm NOT going to go with my favorite team on this and shop around...

San Jose: They have excellent talent and skill there. Joe Thorton, Jonathan Cheechoo, etc. and could be a surprise favorite.

Leafs: With the loss of the big E the other E, and the additions of Peca and Raycroft, this could be a dominant team.

Carolina: Duh. They were the cup champs this year. They have Eric Staal, Cam Ward, brind'amor etc. amazing talent could be good.
