The American Automobile Association reports that California has the highest gas prices in the nation, with San Francisco posting the highest price per gallon in the state.
According to the Daily Fuel Gauge Report released this morning, the average price per gallon for regular gasoline in California is $2.13. Nevada and Hawaii are the only other states to soar over $2 per gallon, according to the report.
In the Bay Area, San Francisco has recorded an average price of $2.23 for a gallon of regular gasoline, according to the report. The highest recorded price for a gallon of regular gasoline in San Francisco was on March 19, 2003 at $2.28, according to the report.
Chico, $2.02, and Sacramento, $2.06, are the two Bay Area cities with the lowest recorded prices for a gallon of regular gasoline, according to the report.
Other Bay Area cities with elevated prices include Santa Cruz-Watsonville, $2.14, Oakland, $2.13, Santa Rosa, $2.12, Salinas, $2.10, and San Jose, $2.09.

The price of Crude Oil, as it fluctuates, is the same throughout the world. The price you pay at the pump is a factor of local demand and, more importantly, a factor of how much government tax is imposed on each gallon or liter.
