How many others out there want to boycott HBO for cancelling Deadwood?

They are trying to make us feel better by stating that they will air I believe four 2 hour episodes to end the show properly. It's outrageous. I also hated when Showtime cancelled Dead Like Me. That was the only reason I had Showtime, needless to say I no longer have Showtime.

i don't generally endorse boycotts, but i'm with you. Deadwood has to be one of the best shows EVER, and i do not understand why they would cancel it. Yet, somehow, Entourage stays on the air...

I understand that Milch was only planning four seasons - or, at least, only one more season after the current one. He lost the 4th season, but will get two 2-hour movies to finalize his storylines after this season is done.

The real Deadwood was really only "frontier" for a couple of years, and I think it is the "last frontier town" context of the story that has made it such crackling good TV.

I will miss the show. I subscribe to HBO for Sopranos, Deadwood, and Rome (I understand Carnivale was/is excellent, and will probably watch the DVDs at some point). By the time the last of these three shows finish, I will end my subscription to HBO unless HBO has something new I like - which is entirely likely.

I don't know the economics of HBO programming, but I suppose that the shows get more expensive with each year they run (actors like to get salary increases - but should the good Mr. Gandolfini really get $1M+ per episode?), and HBO gets most of its money for a given show, I believe, from DVD box sales (so support your favorite HBO shows by buying the box sets).

There is a balance in the economics, I am sure, that probably overrides - eventually - the creative/critical aspects of the programming.

To tag onto the last comment..I love Deadwood and I love Entourage. If you look at the demographics that these two shows GENERALLY appeal to though...you'll understand why Deadwoods getting the boot and Entourage is not.

Also..Deadwood for all it's mayhem and profanity is a thinking persons show. Hell..if you don't have half a brain you couldn't even figure out what the hell they are saying half the time. I've read a lot about the real Deadwood and all the characters in it. (For those who don't know..all the characters are real and actually lived. If you can believe it the ones that aren't really portrayed as bad as they really were are Al Swearengen and Dan Dority. In real life..they beat the living crap out of the whores and ran one of the largest white slavery trades that side of the Mississippi.) On the show they're bad..but not THAT bad.
As for the dialogue..I've read journals kept by "Deadwoodites" and, if they talked like they wrote, they did indeed talk in such florid and verbose eloquence.

Deadwood is by far my favorite show. You have to realize though that they oringinally intendedto only have one season, then it got huge. It is also historically based, and Deadwood was only like the show we see for about 5 years then government cracked down and it became just like any other frontier town. Most of the characters were real life people and there is only so much you can write before real life facts start to take over.
I dont get why Entourage is still on though, that is a terrible show.

Are they really cancelling Deadwood? You know HBO is screwing up. They also cancelled a show called Dead Like Me that was awesome! Maybe they need to get rid of the Sopranos, it seems to be gobbling up all their funds and leaving nothing for other decent shows.

HBO cancelled Deadwood???? I had no idea. This is upsetting. I'll boycott after the final season of the Sopranos. Sorry, I can't give that up. I'm weak.

If Deadwood goes I won't have HBO. Not because I'm boycotting, but because that's the only real reason I have it. I'll save money until Rome season 2 come out next year.
