Its suppose to help reduce swelling and prevent varicose veins. I don't know how it would help you get back into shape.

Doctors prescribe them during pregnancy when having circulatory problems in the legs. I had them during my second. Uncomfortable at first, they help so much in bringing the blood back that your legs feel lighter and less painful. I preferred the ones that don't go over the belly (only up the thighs) because even the specialized ones for pregnancy wouldn't stretch enough for my belly. Also, once on, you don't have to replace them when going to the bathroom. You need to use gloves like for doing the dishes to be able to stretch them without breaking them so the better fit without having to readjust them then the less time spent with the gloves! Remember the first week I tried those and replacing them with the rubber gloves at work felt awkward! ;-) Never heard anything true about getting back in shape with them but they sure prevent those nasty dead veins surfacing on your legs!
