"allowed"? If we grow that much more food and buy that much more fuel, where are rules written that limit what a person can buy and use?

Please, I'm really curious. How would you prevent someone who has the money from buying what they want? Rationing?

I agree that the average American wastes far too much food and fuel. I've lived here all my life and am disgusted by the amount of food one of our friends eats and then complains about his weight and health problems! Instead of using a car, he drives a fuel eating truck and then b*tches about the cost of gas - when he could use ONE car to get somewhere he and his wife use BOTH cars so they can do separate side trips!

Please don't paint ALL of us with the same brush. That is simply not the case. My family recycles, our son uses public transportation (He refuses to buy a car) and we don't waste food. Our neighbor rides a bike whenever he needs to go someplace without his family, as do I. Get to know some of us before you decide that we're all as bad as you think.

Well, I don't believe there is a limit on the amount of fuel and food europeans can use. Europeans are allowed to use more as well. The real question isn't why are we allowed to, it's why do we. There are numerous possibilities. They range from weather, we have hotter summers and colder winters than most of Europe does, we also have places that are completely frozen all year and others than are hot dry deserts. Living in either extreme will bring your usage of fuel up for heating or cooling purposes. Another is that America is a larger country than any of the European countries. Europeans don't travel across borders for work as often as Americans travel across states for work, largely because crossing the border means another country. Thus, Americans will travel more. There are other reasons as well. We're lazy, we eat a lot, stuff like that. But the fact remains it has nothing to do with what we are allowed to do. All nations are allowed the same. It's why do we use more? That's the question.

Well...since America is a nation of immigrants:):)
Then it must be the piggy Euros and Asians and South Americans:):)
Its like when I was working on fishing boat and Norwegian guy started giving me ear full about what "Americans" did to Native Americans.
I pointed out to him that the people stealing the Native Americans land and perpetrating atrocities were English and Dutch and German and Swedish and Norwegian and Irish . And others.
Immigrants straight off the boat were happy to to take the Native Americans land.
Irish immigrants right off the boat were enlisted into the U.S.Army to fight in the Indian Wars....
A goods proportion of the people committing attempted genocide and stealing the Native Americans land were EUROPEANS.

The first thing an Immigrant to America wants...A BRAND NEW CAR.
So whos sensibilities and tastes determine the consumption patterns in AMERICA?

Just thought I would point that out.

well one of our states is bigger than most of your countries. We contribute more than 4 times anyone to the rest of the world who are all so jealous of us and we feed most of the damn starving in the world. Ever watch the bags of food being unloaded everywhere in the world? have the American flag on them butt wipe.

You shouldn't worry about us. WE use alot of natural resources but we also have self imposed federal regulations for not polluting the environment. YOU should instead be worried about CHINA & INDIA - who are well on their way to surpass our consumption without EPA standards.
