Contact your local fire department on their Business line (not the emergency number) and ask about getting a permit.
They will probably say NO. Sorry.

It depends upon where you live. Your county or city will have ordinances that either permit it or not. However, if they do not - you still can have a fire by using a "fire pit" that can be purchased commercially from garden departments at Home Depot, Walmarts, etc.
We live in a subdivision that does not allow fires - but regularly enjoy a small one in our pit - thus get to roast marshmellows and cuddle in our own backyard in the evenings.
If you do have to purchase one, the "chimney" variety is allowed in most apartment complex patios, and the "cast iron/steel pit" variety are allowed in most subdivisions. Expect to spend between $50 and $250 depending upon the level of fanciness you desire.

It depends on where you live and if there are any deed restrictions prohibiting it in your nieghborhood or city/county laws against it. Another thing to take into consideration is the lack of rainfall in some areas where they put out a burn ban if it is too high a risk for a fire to get out of hand. We do bonfires in our yard all the time as long as there is no burn ban in effect. The best way to find out for sure is to call your local fire Dept. and ask them. If you don't you may get a visit from them and a fine! Roast some mallows for me!!

Isn't something that we have to ask whether or not we can have a fire in our back yards. Permits, codes, etc.
Pile up those pallets and burn away. Invite the neighbors so they'll enjoy the festivities and if the fire gets out of hand they'll be there to help keep it under control.

Contact the local fir dept.and ask them if you can. They will inform you of any procedures required if necessary. Make sure you talk to an officer at the fire dept. so you'll get an accurate response. Also remember the name of who told you what.

Here (Ontario Canada) you need to have a permit first. Make sure you have no trees nearby and that there is no fire ban going on.

Check with local ordinances. Especially during the summer, it could violate both fire laws and pollution laws.

Depends where you live. In the country if you own your land, you surely can. In the city, you usually can't.
I miss the country.
