I've already finished 1yr. of college and have 1 &1/2 yrs left. Or I can quit & get a job as a postal worker making $18/hr. My financial situation is beyond bad. Should I hang in there with college (I'm studying to be an accountant) or get a job with the USPS? It's a job that will always be there, I'm already 26 yrs old, and I have a child to help support. What should I do?

Only you know what is right for you. Sometimes we are faced with difficult decisions and there is no easy or right answer. Keep in mind that there are part time options to finishing your accounting program. Perhaps you can do some correspondence if the paycheck is that important. Someone gave me this advice once..."flip a coin". Heads you stay in school and tails you take the postal job! IMPORTANT NOTE...............................................................................................(If you find yourself trying for 2 of 3 flips...you've got your answer!)

If you have a child and have to support him, I advice you to search for information about how can you continue your college and working at the same time. Talk to College Manager and ask him if there's any way for you to attend only the most important classes, so you can work to support your child, and tell him you are willing to study in leisure and attend all the exams. If he says it's not possible and make you choose (job or college), I advice you to choose COLLEGE, because being an accountant brings a lot of money and your child would be happier when he is older. Just make some sacrifices for another 2 years, if possible, ask your parents to help you only with the "have to have" things, nothing fancy, so you could make it and after 2 years you'll find a great job, better than working at the post-office. Good luck and may God help you.

If you have a child to support, I say take the postal job. $18 an hour is nothing to sneeze at.

However, you should also continue your schooling. Want some real advice? Don't just settle for the AA in accounting ... you'll only make about $12 an hour tops (full-charge bookkeepers make more than that). Get your BA, work for a couple of years in the field, and then test to become a CPA. After that, you can pretty much do whatever you want.

Good luck.

DON'T QUIT COLLEGE! I can see how tempting it is but you need to come up with a way to continue this last year and1/2
I am married and we have 3 kids, we are in a financial mess also.
My husband makes up to $17.00 an hr. when he is working (there are times of the year when there is a lot of lay-offs) He will be starting a 17 month course at college next month and I will start in Sept. We will be struggling (and I mean really struggling during this time) but the outcome will be so worth it! Hang in there, you will not regret it.

I say try to hang in there. Accountants have much more stability, and can go anywhere to get a job. Postal work....means long hours, which means day care....try to stay in school and try to get some financial help from the government that would allow you to stay in school.

Just bust your butt and get done! only 18 months left! You have come this far! Don't give up now!

I know things are hard but they will always be hard just different problems will accure....Stay with it and become an accountant...You'll be more secure and self reliant and very good money.... You can always look into your remaining classes part time, I know someone that did that so he could work and finish school... Just think of what you could do for your little one if you made the money as an accountant!!! Then you can straighten out your bill's.... Good luck !

Can you study part-time? I dropped out of uni when i was 24 and now i am 32 and have to start all over again. think carefully. If you stick with it in 18 months you will be making GOOD money and be secure for the rest of your life.

Look into doing both. Sometimes you can get a job that assists with educational expenses or will pay for college if you stay with them for several years after graduation. Whatever you do, finish college.
