No its an expansion pack. You have to have the original installed first.

I know this answer b/c I asked someone at Circuit City a few months back about this same thing.
You need to install the original Sims before you can install any other Sims games. The original Sims is the backbone of all the other Sims games. It's not that hard to do and doesn't cost as much as it use to. If you don't have the original Sims game, you can buy it at any store now for at least $20-$25. It's fun and easy to load.

No technicaly you need the original sims 2 to play. However, once you install both you will no longer need the Sims2 disc, box, instruction booklet, or anything else. You can play the game with only the expansion pack disc in the computer. So, you can sell it 2nd hand or (if the strore you bought it from has a somewhat liberla return poilcy) return it.

No. All Sims expansion packs are reliant on using the original Sims game for playing.
