what is a whole house water filter? and yes, it is from hair, how do I add a strainer if there is a plug stopper? Do I just remove it?

Install a soft water system, you will never have to unclog or clean hard water stains again

Sure, there are several things I recommend. First I would suggest getting one of those hand use cannister cables to clean drains. Most good hardware or home supply stores have them. They basically are a canister with a knob and a cable inside that you use to make the cable turn around like it would on a professional drain cleaning machine. First put a towel into the tub to block the drain hole. Then remove the drain trip lever, the thing you pull up to stop the water to take a bath. unscrew the two screws that holds the face plate on and pull it out. I recommend pouring bleach down there to loosen up the hair and stuff before you clean the drain, use a funnel. After it sits a while to work on the hair and stuff, like an hour would be good, slide the cable from the cannister down into the drain. When it stops, put the cannister about a foot from the opening and tighten the little screw to lock the cable. Then turn the knob on the cannister. Turn for a little while, about a minute or so, to wind stuff up on the cable. Next pull the cable in and out a little and then push it back in until it catches on stuff again. Then do the tightening the screw and turning the knob to make the cable spin around in the pipe again. Every two or three times of turning the cable, pull the cable out and see if there is any hair and junk on it. If there is, clean the cable off, and start again. Keep doing that until the cable is free of junk. Also check around the drain on the bottom of the tub to see if there is any hair stuck there. Only clean that our right around the drain, no need to put a cable down there usually. Be prepared for some icky nasty stuff. Once you have removed the hair, run the water down it to flush out any left over hair. Then pour some more bleach down there to keep it clean. About once a month pour some bleach down your drain, and let it sit an hour or so, and you won't get as much trouble from the clogs. You can look on the internet for videos or posts that tell how to do that. The bleach will really help to make sure you don't get the cable stuck in the drain, that would be bad. Good luck.

take medicine to help against hair loss. More than likely that is what is clogging the drain is your hair. either that or brush it out before you get in the shower so you dont lose it down the drain.
On another thought, you might want a plumber to snake the line to see if its broken somewhere. A few years back I had a tree root bust through my drain line and caused the same thing. They ran a snake through and cut the root, but crap (no pun intended) kept getting stuck on the pieces.

I am no plumber but I have the same problem. I have long hair and it stops up the drain every so often. My husband bought this plastic thing at lowes that is very cheap. It is about 2 ft long or so. It has barbs down both sides. Kinda looks like thorns or something. You push this thing down the drain then pull it back up. It pulls out whatever is stopping up the drain. It is kinda gross but it gets it unclogged way better than draino or any of that stuff. It was only a couple of bucks too.

any hardware store carries diffrent shower drain strainers.. would be up to you which one u choose.i would not use draino because( it does desolve the hair away) it causes a slug on your drain lines that acts as a spider web catching all debris that comes in contact with it. also depending on the age of your home the master trap under the foundation of the home may have rusted so badly that a 2 inch line is now a 1inch line( this happens on cast iron drains only) this will cause debris like hair to clogg the drain more easily

Shower and bathtub drains should have strainers that stop hair and soap from entering the drain. Clean strainers regularly to avoid clogs

I just keep using drain cleaners. With the hair that goes down the drain your pipe will continue to clog up no matter what you do to the pipe.
