As a manager of a retail electronics store, working on average 55 hours a week. Theres NOT many days I DO wanna go to work. I just live with it and go in even if I drank the night before Or stayed up to late. Its called life.
You shouldnt call in unless you are physically or mentally unable to go. Ya never know when you are gonna need to be out for something serious!

Last night in San Francisco I was attacked by a guy who didn't like the remarks I made about him and he hit me in the face and broke the windshield of my car with a small bat that I tried to hit him with.
I can't come into work today because of eye trouble.... I can't see working today.
When I got up this morning, I took two Ex-Lax in addition to my Prozac. I can't get off the john, but I feel good about it.
I can't come in to work today because I'll be stalking my previous boss, who fired me for not showing up for work. OK?
A man I worked with once called in with... "My wife's breasts are sore after her breast enlargement so I need to stay home and massage her ****."
Sorry Boss I can't come into work today...my spirit guide says work is for losers!
I am sick with the Lack. Lack of ambition.
I lost my car keys skiing and I can't leave until I find them!

I had one magically wonderful job where I had a very good relationship with my boss. I called in one morning because it was snowing really hard, but not quite hard enough for things to start closing down. I said, "are you thinking about closing the shop because of the snow? Because I really don't want to come into today. Today is a staying in my warm bed day," and they told me they weren't going to close down but that it wasn't busy so I didn't have to come in! It got really nice later in the day and the snow melted so I went for a walk and saw my boss driving his car down the street. He just waved and said "Hi!" Best job ever.

Most of the time I am honest and just tell my boss I don't feel like coming in to work today. If I don't have any sick time left, then it's time to get creative.

I've called in just sick and when I returned everyone asked if I felt better. I just told them that I was fine, I had just been sick of being at work. That's actually acceptable in my job, as long as you don't abuse it :)

I once knew of the "brother" of my late father-in-law used an excuse that my father-in-law had died.
The word got around.
The family received a "zillion" flowers.
I think I may have heard most.

I called into work once and told them that my wife was going to conceive and I wanted to be there. Didn't work, but we all got a good laugh from it.

I would tell my boss my car broke down and I had to take care of that before the day ended.
