I got two irridesent sharks about a week ago, and they seem to be doing fine. I've been feeding them flake food, but last time i went to the pet store i found some special catfish food, and tried switching them over to that. they like it and seemed to be eating it at first, but the problem is when i feed them, they usually just get so scared of my hand / falling objects they hide in the corner, and never find the food.

i don't have much time to transition them as i'm going on vacation wednesday, but i'm not sure if i should tell the friend that's watching them to feed them the shark pellet or the flakes.

should i be worried? will they just find it on their own if they get hungry enough? should i just screw it until i come back from vacation and keep them on the flakes?

thanks!

iridescent sharks, shark skin catfish, or pangasius, are very skittish fish. They are prone to swimming into objects and damaging themselves. do not put your hand in the water with them yet, wait untill you get back from holiday and leave you hand submerged for a long time to see if they get used to you.

Feed them on flakes and they should be OK. and mine ate from the bottom and middle and top levels of my tank.

I hope you have a large tank though as these fish grow HUGE. 3 feet in length is not too uncommon.

go back to flake food with a few pellets so thay can eat the flakes at feeding time than later on will come out to find the pellets.
i found that my redfined shark tends to go after the flakes more the the alie pellits i put in ocasonaly for my suckers (altho the guppie try to eat the pellets while there falling)

the sharks will find the pellets eventuraly as fis have a good sence of smell. whatch to see if they find the pellets.

They should be able to find it, after they think the "danger's" gone.
I have two too, floating pellets they'll be able to find.
I don't remember ever seeing mine eat off the bottom of the tank.

I just thought I should warn you, they get 3ft long.
Oh, wow "wiki" says 4ft. Most websites I've seen say 3ft, I guess the aquarium stunts their growth a lot.

"Adults reach up to 130 cm (4 ft) in length and can weigh up to a maximum of 44.0 kg (97 lb)"
