Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series ended perfectly - I hated the twist ending and loved it at the same time. The man is brilliant.

Someone else wrote Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. That's a very good one. Another fave of mine is Gone for Good by Harlan Coben.

"Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. It was upsetting at first, but once I got over it, I understood and thought it worked well with the story.
