I want a tortoise that can roam the garden and hibernate during the winter. I hear they can cost about £200. Does anyone know where I can get one for a lot cheaper?

The only way to get a cheap tortoise is to find a breeder who has extras he wants to move, or to find someone getting tired of their pet.

Tortoises are just plain expensive- and the better it is as a pet, the more it costs. In some places, you can find cheap species, like Russians, but they are not the top-rated 'pet' tortoises.

Move to the USA.
Many animal rescue groups have *free* tortoises for people with proper torts habitats. You will actually probably need to pay some type of nominal fee.
If you are not willing or able to pay for proper care of a pet, find another hobby.

Yep I have one he is about 75 years old, and is a pain in the ****, as he's always bonking your feet. I would give him away tomorrow but the wife would KILL me, as it's hers.
