i have a syrian hamster and it bites even though i do nothing wrong. i clean it out, i give it food and waterand a weel and i take it out by giving it the option of climbing on to my hand. then it comes off the weel, onto my hand which is outside of the cage and then he bites me. i wash my hands before handling it so they dont smell like food and ive even tried rubbing my hand in its shavings so i smell like its sorroundings and it still bites me. ive only done that 4 times but thats a tip i got from the woman at pets at home. i also had a syrian hamster before and i did exactly the same. so i took it back to pets at home but if i take another back they will think im doing something wrong. ive had other syrians before the recent 2 and they didnt bite. have you got any tips to help me with the vicius prik.

You may want to go through some old answers since this has been asked a million times, but... Get the hamsters used to you slowly. Start by just putting your hand in. Don't even try to pick it up, just let it sniff you. Let him slowly get used to your scent. You may even want to put one of your old socks that you've worn into the cage to give him even more of an opportunity to do so. Unfortunately it may take a lot of time. Four times isn't much. You have to keep in mind how huge you are compared to your hamster. He probably isn't biting because he's mean, he's probably biting because he's frightened.

There is also a chance that he simply isn't a friendly guy and may not get used to being handled. Out of the more than a dozen hamsters I have had, only one was ever unable to get used to handling, but *wow* did that guy ever have a bad attitude.

well you need to see it from the hamsters view.
it a pray animal it things your big and scary and you want to eat him.
leave him to settel in for a week befor handleing it, and when you do hand fed it treats and where gloves so you wont feel the bite so as it bites you and nothing happens then the hamster will figur out that that you wont harm or eat it. do this every day for about half an hour untill it doesent bite any more.
but with rodents you can all ways expesc tiny accidents once in a while
