I run an environmental education center with various snakes native to our state...(South Carolina). A co-worker brought me a small snake he found in his yard... It is red and black striped. Very small...maybe seven inches. There is no yellow, so I don't think its a coral or scarlet king... any ideas?

it could be a mud snake or a Black Swamp Snake . Both of them are red and black with no other colors. And both are found in South Carolina. :) Hope this helps.

What about a Redbelly snake. They mature to about the size of a large pencil and tend to eat slugs.
