there are 4 accounts besides mine named "unknown"
3 of these are less than 500kb
1 unknown account is larger than 1.5 gb
can I delete these unknown accounts or are they part of something necessary?
with a 15gb harddrive (4.5gb free) I need all the space I can get.

That's a pretty sure sign you got hacked. Delete the accounts. You should probably do a reinstall just to be sure it's gone. First, download those security programs again and keep them somewhere you can get to them offline: CD, USB drive, whatever. Then reinstall Windows and do not let it connect to the Internet. Pull the plug out of it! Install those programs, THEN plug it in and do all the updates. Update those programs, update Windows, update everything you can update.

You don't have got to be hacked... that's b*llsh*t...
Maybe someone else try to be funny and maked a few other accounts on you're PC....
If I were you I just delete it....
