"The state.... must see the sword as the main if not the only, instrument with which to keep its morale high and to retain its moral tension. Toward this end it may, no it MUST invent dangers, and to do this it must adopt the method of provocation and revenge.... And above all, let us hope for a new war with the Arab countries so that we may finally get rid of our troubles and acquire our space." ~ Moshe Sharett, who was Israeli's first Foreign Minister from 1948-1956, and Prime Minister from 1954-1956.

I saw the same poll on the same channel.

I support a country's right to defend itself - within reason - but mostly I support peace.

No. The US support of Israel was hardly motivated by religion or morality; The United States helped protect Israel during the Cold War because of Israel's strategic location if a war started with the Soviet Union. Our support continued through the 90's and into today because of it's strategic military value against middle-east targets (Iran has always been on our ****-list) and because of the large Jewish population in the United States. Today the jewish population and some conservatives who support whatever policy the administration takes are the majority of Israel's base in the US. 30% seems to be a pretty accurate number *(I've also noticed that just about everyone seems to have forgotten that the Israelis used terrorism EXACTLY the same way the arabs do now when they were trying to create Isreal)

Yes...and there is now a common misconception (surprise: started by the Conservatives) that the left doesn't support Israel. That's bull. There is support for Israel from the left. If the numbers are only 30% in support, do you really think that only 30% of America is Conservative and the 70% that doesn't support them is Liberal? If that were the case, we wouldn't have a Republican run congress and senate and we wouldn't have a Republican in the White House. 30% support for Israel means that probably there are also Conservatives that don't support their actions. I do. I don't blame them a bit for fighting back...I would too. And I hope that they can stop Hezbollah once and for all. (I'm a Liberal)

Israel in general is a country worthy of our support, but I think they have shown extreme over-reaction in this case. Killing hundreds of Lebanese citizens because of two kidnapped Israeli soldiers is an abomination. Not all Lebanese are terrorists.
Israel will only end up hurting itself in this because it will turn even more of the world view against them.
I'll bet Hezbollah gets even more people wanting to join their cause after this clash is over. So, in this case, no I do not support Israel.

Yes, I support Israel, but I'll bet you less than 30% of Americans support NBC News! Israel has every right to protect itself, and the US needs to support Israel.

Yes I support Israel. If you want fair and balanced news, watch Fox News. If you just want the democrat's version, then most any of the others will do just fine.

I do not believe that poll any more than I believe CNN's polls. I doubt anyone wants Hezbullah to destroy Isreal and Hamas and Hezbullah take over the middle east. Polls depend on how the questions are asked. Have you quit beating your wife? Yes or NO?

They must be polling only al-Qaeda sleeper cells then. Israel is the beacon of freedom in the middle east, and I support any actions they take to keep that beacon shining.

NO!

I don't think Hezbollah has the right to kill innocent civilians but Israel's response was way to excessive. They constantly accuse the Arab world of wanting to wipe them off the map but they act like they want to wipe them all off the map.

Americans are aware that Israel, like the rest of the middle east, are quite insane. They're just less insane than the rest of it.
