is considered a hero by many for his struggle to shape South Africa, and to attempt to rid that Country of the worst form of racism.
Yet he did little different to what the Palestinians are doing now. To get back the occupied land, stolen by Israel.
Why are they ( The Palestinians) considered different?
After all the Jews were blowing up hotels etc prior to 1948.

Some people ought to read the question before answering!
Shongo, don't blame Mandela for the present crises. What question did you read?
As for baldy old git, it was a straight forward question! Terrorism is terrorism, no matter on what scale! I take it that if it suits your view you would support it? It is you who requires a life! You Old Wanker!

I think it depends on which side you're on?
If you supported the ANC back in the 1980's, 1990's and even today, Mandela is a hero. If you supported the then NP government, then Mandela was a terrorist.
Same thing really applies with Palestine and Israel. Palestine considers Israel an occupier and an oppressor, while the people that support Israel won't even recognise Palestine as a country?

So, then what is the difference, maybe it's because Madiba helped the transition in South Africa and still accepted the white population to be apart of the nation, while with Israel / Palestine, they just don't want to accept that any people (except their own) to stay on that land?

My 2 cents worth ;)

Its just politics aint it? As long as its business as usual the Americans and British et al will support anybody. In south Africa apartheid became impractical as a way of running the economy and had to change - so it was convenient to hold up Mandela as a great freedom fighter. They didn't do much for him whilst he was in prison all those years did they?

Witness Margaret Thatcher sending the SAS to train Pol Pot's men in the use of land mines AFTER the genocide in Cambodia. They are all cynical power brokers, they know that the Palestinians have a just cause but that doesn't matter. It is important for them to support Israel - they need states like Israel (and the Saudis etc) in order to keep a grip on the region where all the oil is. I say they are evil bastards. Others would say they are politicians - same thing!

Nelson Mandela never said the Republic of South Africa had no right to exist. In fact, if the Palestinians loved Israel as much as Mandela loves South Africa there would be no problem at all.

The Palestinians get a raw deal from nearly everyone. The Jewish contingent in America allows Israel to count on the support of th US, which in turn ensures that they don't get penalised for their continued war mongering. Perhaps the only good thing to come out of the current situation is that everyone has sat up and taken notice. I heard that the UN human rights chief has stated that it is an unreasonable show of force against civilians - hence a war crime.....maybe something will be done....maybe not.

As for Mandela and even his wife Winnie....they certainly aren't whiter than white although their cause is certainly very noble.

I really can't find many similarities between Nelson Mandela and the "Palestinians" (who? Arafat? Abu Abbas? Fatah? Hamas?). Mandela gave up 27 years of his free life to support the anti-apartheid movement. Armed violence was not integral part of his ideas. He fought for racial equality and managed to achieve it, thanks to his charisma, intelligence and staying power. He was a born leader, with a charisma similar to that of Mahatma Gandhi, in my opinion.

Lots of rulers started their careers as murderers and bombers. Power is just that, the power to deny the past and end up dancing with the Queen of England, and have the world toasting your health. The Queen has danced with more murderers than Rosemary West!

Nelson Mandela did not use homocide bombers, and kill hundreds of innocent women and children as the Palestians have done. He wanted justice for blacks and was not trying to destroy a country.

The war between Israel and Lebanon is not about racism.
This might be some holy war between these two neighbors or shall i say religious war.
It is not nelson mandela whom we should blame.
