Many companies have a "diversity council". As far as I know, none of them have an "excellence council".

Excellence! No doubt in my mind!

If you are not striving to be the best you (or the organization) can possibly be, you are not competing to your fullest. Without competing to the max,, you are going backwards.

Diversity came about as an outgrowth of the politically correct crowd. They are the ones over there singing coom-bye-ya.

Excellence is more important. Diversity sounds all well and good in theory, but the most diverse employee base is not always the best. Excellence doesn't come easily. "Diversity councils" are a good example of PC run amok!

We must first define excellence. If we are really talking about quality, we can say that quality is defined as the relationship between the cost of a product and the product's conformation to fit and function. So, one could maintain a large amount of diversity without sacrificing excellence. Where we make are mistakes is when we diverse too far from our core knowledge.

well many have total quality management procedures, which I guess could be like excellence, but I agree that a business should strive to hire the very best person for a particular position. When deciding to eliminate a population of applicants for no reason other than their skin color, regardless of what color that is, you are doing harm to the overall excellence of the company.
