They both have phenomenal ERAs and winning percentages, but Liriano has way more innings pitched. Weaver pitches in a much weaker division though and may be able to keep up his pace more easily. What does everyone think?

Yes, as mentioned by some astute answerers, Papelbon and possibly Verlander could be in the mix for AL ROY as well. There are just so many great rookie pitchers this year.

Liriano is going to win unless he collapses down the stretch... another scenario would be that they give the Cy young to Liriano and leave ROY to one of the others... I'd say Weaver is 4th on the list though... Verlander and Papplebon are more high profile this season.

No doubt that Weaver has been fantastic. And I'm loving it because he's on my fantasy roster. But the nod for AL Rookie of the Year easily goes to Liriano barring some type of great failure in August and September. 12-2 with an ERA under 2 is phenomenal. Those types of numbers are also what make a person Cy Young worthy.

HELL NO. Liriano is 12-2 with over 120 K's and has an ERA below 2.00. Weaver hasn't done it the whole season, and that will be the reason why he doesn't win. But Weaver is a hell of a pitcher.

Hold on a second Jimmy. Your forgetting about Tiger rookie Jason Verlander. He's right up there with Weaver and Liriano, if not better.

If the Angels wouldn't have screwed around with Jered's brother Jeff, he might have a shot at ROY. I like Liriano or Papplebon - and don't forget about Verlander.

Liriano has is all but wrapped up. Remember that he was also a RP at the start of the season, so he didn't get the call up half way through, so he has that working for him.
His K/9, ERA, and WHIP and nutz. But remember that all voters care about is wins(which is stupid) so it is just a matter of who has more wins.

i dont think so cause liriano has many more wins and they will probably start the same number of games(or close) so weaver dosn't have time to make those games up...i think its down to j-pap and liriano
