Well..bleach is known to kill everything..how about u spray some diluted bleach on to the stones and see if it prevents moss from growing. Also, moss is know to grow in cold and wet climates facing the north direction...so I recommend you try not to wet your stones, and make sure they are dry...perhaps even poor some salt water on it.

The same way you stop it on a roof - zinc. If you can find some unobtrusive places to place zinc where the rain water will wash over it to then flow over the stones it should work. Moss and algae should be gone. Zinc strips from your local hardware store should be both inexpensive and easily found all over the country.
