basically american chauvinism...its also the case in basketball with the nba world championships...americans feel that since they invented baseball and basketball, their championship series means they are the best in the world

Well it's a bit of marketing hype. I don't think it was meant to slight any other country. The first world series was played in 1905 and pro sports in general were pretty much a new thing. The "World Series" moniker was intended to put bums in seats just as Barnum and Bailey's circus had the, "Greatest Show on Earth". Baseball is a game of tradition so they decided to keep the same name in an changing world. Given that a lot of the better ball players from all over the world are in MLB, it's maybe not so inappropriate.

we only let Canada in becasue we felt sorry for them, and they promised not to let French Canadians be involved.
