Each airline is different. Continental announces specials on Wednesday mornings. Just be aware that prices can change by the minute. They are computer generated depending on inquiries, bookings, etc. If you are checking on-line, check several times if the price seems high. Likewise, if you see a great fare, grab it because it might be higher when you come back later.

It really depends on the airline but if you go to several of the companies you want o use website you can usually sign up and ask them to email you when the new specials are announced. I have done that with Delta and Airtran. They both keep me up on the latest fares and deals.
