They dont migrate.... many will overwinter as eggs. Eggs and some nymphs can go into a state of complete shut down known as diapause, this is very common with insects in the Northern Hemisphere. The eggs are the most resistant stage of all the life stages of an insect's life, they can survive sometimes many years in the egg, awaiting the perfect environmental conditions with which to emerge in. They will wait out the winter in this suspended animation and then emerge once the days grow longer and the earth begins to heat up.

They go live with the ants. The ants let them eat their food, and the grasshoppers pay the ants by playing their fiddle for them all winter.
