Look at the hypocricy of the Canadian government. They gain more than 2 billion dollars in revenue from smokers each year. However, they keep passing bills that make it harder and harder to sell cigarettes. The new joke of a law disallows merchants from placing cartons on their "POWER DISPLAY". So you have to either keep 2 or 3 packs, or open up all the cartons and have hundreds of packs on your power display. People still buy 8 packs and get the carton discount. Here's the other stupid thing. You can't have more than 3 prices on the power display showing at any given time. And signs have to be of a certain size and cannot be visible to the outside. What a joke that is. They think that people are going to look through the store front's windows to see the prices of cigarettes. The government is wasting time and money on pathetic laws. I know this because I don't even smoke, nor do I support smokers. It's bad for your health, but that's your choice.
In reply to Boyo's post:
Bro, a fallen cigarette can't ignite anything that's not readily flamable like gasoline. So if you had gasoline around your house, then you tried to burn down your own house or someone just hates you. Take a cigarette and put it on a napkin, and it won't even go up in flames.

Apparently not the Greeks. That's the only country where the number is going up. Or pretty much any of Europe, on the continent.Everybody smokes. Well not everyone, but an awful lot. In public, in crowded places.

Finally we acknowledge the dangers of second hand smoke. We as a society are more health conscious than before and want to take steps to live a higher quality of life...
most of us feel that smoking is not part of that equation.
I am not anti smoking...I am for a healthy lifestyle that has no place in it for cigarette smoke because smoking kills!

I am anti-smoking in places that serve food and enclosed spaces. Other than that I do not care.

If people want to inhale toxic substances that is their own concern. As Ian Fleming said "Live and let die". I try to avoid smoke-filled rooms as I would become seriously ill if I stayed in one for more than two minutes.

Generally speaking, I am not.
This is one reason I don't go to bars. I feel that is one one safe haven for them
Busses, elevatorshallways, any confined area like that, don't smoke.
Outsoors, that's OK. Just take care of the butt when you're done.
Don't pitch it into the street. Dammit, you have an ashtray in your car. Use it!
