Depending on how close you are to other counties and if you are going to help her find transportation you can look at this list on the web for places a bit farther away, which may be better for her too. As a previously abused woman I can tell you it is hard not to go back, I did four times before I nearly lost my life on night and finally got out. My grandma took me in the first three times and when I left the last time she told me she loved me but she could no longer help me and the next time I had to find a shelter, I was very angry at the time but I know it was that tough love that forced me to get the help I needed. Giving her a list of shelters is a great first step, but helping her get to one and walk in the door is the most incredible gift you could give. It is harder to leave a miserable life if you have nothing else than it is to go someplace with nothing but a bruised and battered soul. I understand that it is a situation that many would choose to turn a blind eye too but you may be the only guardian angel she has. Think about how you will feel if she comes back? Will you be mad at her? Will you think well she is in charge of her life and if she wants that kind of life it is her choice? Next time it happens will you turn a blind eye to it? The day my grandma took me to the shelter I thought I would die of embarassment, that there was no other way than go to back and live that life. I found serenity walking in that door, women that had been through as much or more than I had. Women that had children to worry about and I only had me. My Grandma can tell you it is one of the hardest things she has ever done but it was the one thing she will always be happy she did. I know you are not related and you are only trying to be a good renter and that in itself in today's world is amazing. But if you can find the time and the love to do this for her maybe you can go one step further and help her to go through that door. I know I would never had done it on my own and I ask for forgiveness for the anger I felt toward my grandma that day in all my prayers because it was her love that saved me from a life and possibly a death from hell. I hope this doesn't sound like I am trying to guilt you to do this for her I just hoped to help you understand how hard it can be for someone in her situation to really walk away for good and find a life that she can be proud to live. Thank you for everything you are willing to do, there aren't many like you in the world that is for sure.

You are a wonderful person for getting involved, you may save a life.
Because of obvious safety concerns, most women and childrens shelters do not publicize their address. There have been too many cases of enraged husbands coming to th eshelter.
Call the hotline number. They will assist you, and your tenant.
Good luck.
