Attendence is important at all jobs. Most employers are pretty understanding if there is a good medical reason for you not to be able to perform regular duties as long as it's not a pretty regular occurance.

As far as being fired? I hate to say it, but Ohio, like many states, is an "employement at will" state. They can let you go at any time and really don't even have to state a reason beyond, "your services are no longer required." Now, if it can be proven that the firing is discriminatory then you have grounds for a suit. For medical reasons? Not unless you're pregnant!

Did you coordinate with your supervisor? Communication will your employer runs both ways. Did you get your medical leave in writing from your employer? Did your boss just "okay" your absence, without coordinating it with the human resources dept?
Was your doctor's excuse for the dates you were absent, or several days later when you realized you needed it.
This isn't high school when you can turn in a piece of paper "excusing" your absence.
Work with your employer to see if you both can compromise. If the company spent time/money training you, they may be more inclined to continue your employment. It's times like this it pays to be a good employee and meet the company standards.

Good luck
