Since you're going to be in such different, distinct places, do you want your hotel to be always the same (if so see other postings about Super 8, Red Roof Inn, Days Inn, etc) or do you want where you stay to reflect something about the city.

I never stay in a chain hotel, but I always pay the same.
Here's what I do:

First, I research the areas of whatever city I'm most likely to be during my stay there. Then I decide on a price that I'm willing to pay. I NEVER enter more than $75.

Next, I go onto expedia.com
http://www.expedia.com/Default.asp?CCheck=1&
I enter 3 stars on the what kind of quality I'll accept.
Then I enter the area in the city, and let them search. You will NOT be sorry!

If this sounds like an advertisement, I can't help it...I have gotten i some incredible deals this way. Examples: Sheraton Biltmore and Raddison India Point in Providence R.I. for $65 a night....amazing. Or Crown Plaza in White Plains NY for $70 a night. Or $65 a night in NYC Seaport Inn. People always ask how I do it....this is the way and it always works. And, I always remember which hotel I stayed in in each city because they're always memorable.
Good Luck!

Try Best Western.com they have rooms all over the USA but before booking register in the gold crown club free to register. You will then build up points to use for free rooms either in USA or when you get back to Europe

Super 8s are everywhere. Reasonably priced and they all offer free continental breakfast.
