Because I DO think/feel that he is THE greatest living songwriter (mind you, I didn't say singer) - how can you expect one to only speak about ONE song/album????

Here's some of mine ----

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan = Blowing In The Wind, A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, Don't Think Twice, It's All Right

New Morning = If Not For You, Went To See The Gypsy

The Times They Are A-Changin' = (title song), With God On Our Side, Only A Pawn In Their Game, Boots of Spanish Leather

Bob Dylan/John Wesley Harding = All Along the Watchtower, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight

Bob Dylan Nashville Skyline = Lay Lady Lay, Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You

Blonde on Blonde = I Want You, Just Like A Woman

And the ultimate PROOF of HERO worship??? and emulation.

Naming my youngest (final child of 5) . . . BEAU DYLAN . . .

That's a good question. But no, I wouldn't say he's the greatest living songwriter.

Lennon/McCartney were obviously the best songwriters ever. But of course John Lennon has sadly passed on so they wouldn't qualify.

Next it would be a toss up between Jagger/Richards and Page/Plant. I prefer Page/Plant but others could argue for the Rolling Stones duo. They all have done several masterpieces.

But if your talking about solo songwritters. Then things get interesting and Bob Dylan would be right up there. But even then I would pick at least a couple before I would go with Bob Dylan. There's Roger Waters of Pink Floyd who did some truly amazing work. The Wall in itself should be reason enough to mention him among the best. Sir Peter Townshend also did some ground breaking stuff while doing all the writting for The Who. Eric Clapton would have to be right up there as well.

But without a doubt Bob Dylan is the greatest American songwriter we have ever seen. And there have been quite a few inspirational American songwritters.

I love Bob Dylan; he most certainly is the greatest living songwriter.

My favorite Dylan album is 'Highway 61 Revisted'. I have quite a few favorite songs written by him, but I'd say "Ballad of a Thin Man" is at the top of the list.

I also love "All I Really Want to Do" from 'Another Side of Bob Dylan'.

Dylan is probably the greatest folk song writer there ever was. Don't remember which album it was from but I am partial to the song "Subterranian Homesick Blues".

Alive? Nobody comes close to him lyrically period. Vocally people will throw thier bodies on a mic before letting me near it and I can sing better than Dylan. Musically he's the ultimate folk composer. Lyrically people from a dozen genres have done his songs and some of them are some of the greatest ever.
