I don't think my favourite music is the best for all; in fact, I know it is not the best for everyone. Somebody likes one kind of music, and another person a different kind, and that's that. I only have one real distaste, and that is because the music (local for my country) is really bad, made and performed by people without talent or sincerity, and they are very aggressive in listening to it... and I generally don't know if it really can be called music. No, it's not hip-hop or anthing like that; trully a local thing.
And even in that case, I don't mind other people listening to it; I do object to being forced to listen to, as in public transport vehicles. That's as far as my judgement goes on other people's preferences. And it's sincere.
There are technical things that can be evaluated in a musical piece, as well as any piece of art - mastery of the instrument, voice range and strength and coloratura, etc. But those cannot determine the quality of the music; THAT is a purely subjective perception, and nobody has the right to say "I listen to better music than you!"

Your question is very interesting and can applied to many subjects and art forms in addition to music.
I don't judge other people's preferences on music because I think this is a personal opinion and a matter of taste.
For example, I have friends who love classical music and I have the feeling they may look down on me because I love rock music. Still, I continue to stick up for my right to love rock, even though, I am sure they feel superior to me because they think classical music is more legitimate, more real or better music. Can any musician alive now compare with the greats like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc.? This is the question they must have in their mind. Still, I stubbornly stick to popular music (like Frank Sinatra), jazz, country music, reggae, broadway show tunes.
Sometimes music I am not used to - for example - rap, heavy metal - I may dislike, but then I can find even in the music I dislike there may be a song, that grabs me, either the words or music itself speaks to me, and I find myself liking a song from a type of music I thought I disliked. That's why it's important to keep an open mind about preferences - mine and others - because we all can learn and change.
I am starting to like opera and classical music as well, but it's not my home - my home is music from the 50's onward - that is the music I feel most comfortable with. But why should I expect the whole world to feel the same as I do?

I don't think like that. Music is like any other art form. There is no right and wrong. Its very much subjective, but some people do have that kind of opinion. Music can stir powerful emotions in lots of people and arrogance can be one of them. I used to be like that myself about all the manufactured pop you hear on the radio. But now I say to myself "But the kids love it, let them have it". But then does this make me sound condescending? I also remember a musician some years ago saying "Talking about music is like doing a dance to describe architecture." Is an opinion about an art form ever be considered "True" or "Correct"? Use your ears to judge, not someone elses opinion.

I don't have favourite music, I like what I like.
Whether it's Bolero by Ravel, Feel good inc. by Gorillaz or the theme tune to Magnum P.I.
I would hum Postman Pat, Bob the Builder and now Teen Titans. And listen to Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, The Band, Radiohead, Black-eyed Peas and Pulp
I like very old music and very young music.
However there is music that has no value, marketed at people who are too young to know much about music.
It happened to every generation of teenager, with much of that music now thankfully forgotten. Although big hit's for that year.
I will continue to point this out to those who listen to it, and judge them when they deride the real music everyone else listens to.
And I apologise to no-one for doing it.
But sometimes I take their age as mitigating circumstances.

i do no longer think of all rap sucks. I strongly dislike maximum folk of it although. My reason is the lyrical content cloth. i'm uncertain why somebody could be attracted to listening to what quantities to somebody bragging approximately how plenty funds they have* over a quite elementary digital beat. there is likewise the rage of repeating a sentence or 2 in many cases to fill time with the aid of fact they are in a position to't think of of something to assert. *in basic terms an occasion. a super proportion of the rap I definitely have heard is basically somebody bragging approximately some thing. it is not in basic terms the rap that does that I dislike. I dislike exceedingly plenty any form of song this is used as a motor vehicle for somebody attempting to tell you the way plenty extra effectual than you they're. I happen to love Tupac, some DMX stuff, Public Enemy, Run DMC, a number of Eminem's stuff. basically, i like previous college rap the place they actually appeared to have some thing suitable to speak approximately. maximum folk of the recent rap i've got heard won't be in a position of carry a candle to it.

I love metal music because it's loud, heavy, and you stay close with your fanbase. Even though that's what I like, I know there's going to be people who disagree with me and you know what...that's what makes the music indrustry go round. So many people so many different taste. You listen to whatever you want because no of us has the right to judge. All music originated from the same place if you go back far enough.

My folks did it to me as well back in the 70's. It didn't matter what I played it was all crap. Their preference was the music they gre up with in the 40's and 50's. Knowing what you like is a given.
Having to like what others like is a minefield.
Enjoy your music but don't do it in a manner that comes off as being crammed down everybody else's throats. They'll be more receptive then.

I don't judge other people's preferences in music as I don't think it's right to do so, everybody has different tastes and we should respect that

I believe that music that moves you the most in your heart and your soul makes you want to share with others...to make them feel like you do.The happiness and the sadness of it all. NO-ONE has the 'right' to judge others' preferences.I might hate everything you like---but I require you to respect my tastes also.

I know that the music I prefer is only superior in my own opinion but as some other types of music irritate me I’m trying in a vain to stop people playing it. :p
