Not ready yet. School doesn't start for another 4 weeks--had a rough year last year, so I'm enjoying the down time. Doesn't mean I'm not doing anything-_I've been planning my first week out already.

This coming school year is going to be hard. We went into Program Improvement and made some HUGE changes to our district's schedule. Our students will be going to school an hour longer (we had early bird/late bird and lost that) and our kindergarteners will be going to school an extra 2 hours. We are going to have to bust our collective humps to get ourselves out of PI. I teach in a poor, urban school district where over 60% of the children speak English as a second language and are on free/reduced lunch. I am trying to get mentally prepared to get our students to a place academically that is good for them--and also keeps the govt. out of our schools. I'm nervous, I don't want us to slip farther into the PI process-but there is only so much we can do. I'm not going down without a fight--we DO have to incresase achievement not just because the feds say so. Hopefully in a few weeks, I will be at the right place mentally to undertake that challenge. :)

Wow! You all must live south of the Mason Dixon! In NYS we still have another 4 weeks off! Of course we didn't end school until the end of June.

I teach US History also and I would always love to have someone to bounce ideas off of. This summer I'm writing curriculum about making in-school museums for topics such as World War II and the Civil War.

Nice to "meet" you!

...Hang on, I just realized that you probably meant teachers within the US. Sometimes I forget how global we are here. Nice to meet you regardless!

LOL!

I am a public school teacher in NJ and my district returns to work on Sept. 5, 2006. I CAN'T WAIT!! I miss the organized teaching during the summer and watching the kids soak up new concepts!

What grade do you teach??

I am going back in one week. Yep, teachers in my county go back on July 31st and students return the following week. However, if you are a teacher, you know that the first week of preplanning is not enough time to plan because you are in stupid meetings all week. So I'm going back this week to get my room organized.

I just answered a question about pros/cons of teaching. Going back to work the week before I have to just so I can be ready to meet parents and students and start teaching on the first day of school and NOT being paid to work this week.........con. But we do it. Becasue we are teachers. We care.

Year # 32 starts in three weeks. I can't wait. After being off for the last 6 weeks I am feeling mentally unchallenged. ( By the way - where did that idea that teachers get off for three whole months every summer get started?) You can only do so much closet cleaning etc.Boredom and the need for mental stimulation has led me to spending time on Answers! Sad in a way. ; - )

Today is the last official day!!!! well i technically get next Monday off too. I go back for 6th grade orientation. I actully had a "night mare" last night. I am scheduled to teach grades 6 and 7. I dreamed that 8th graders came in my room and I didn't know why. It was really weird. What a night mare!!!!!!! I was not prepared for their curriculum.

Ugh! I forgot about all the meetings! Thanks alot, Bookworm. :P Does anyone else get tired of the obligatory eating out for lunch every day on workdays? My co-workers have expensive taste!

While I've got actual teacher attention here, do any of you know of a site that lists various quick activities to focus attention? I teach 3rd graders, and doing something quick & silly before we get started really helps.

Gearing up for the first day of kiddies on August 15. Yeppers, ready for the year! (Although, staying up late and sleeping in, doing what I want throughout the day, actually being able to pee when you need to, not living by bells....well, that is hard to give up!)

Runs around in Spongebob circles yelling "I'm ready! I'm ready!"

Son and daughter look very bemused.

Husband snorts and shakes head.
