yes its true.the hooks are made of a special alloy to make them strong, but this alloy also dissolves rather quicly if fish swallows the hook and it can't be removed without harming the fish.it may take a few months to a year ; depending on the name brand of the hook and what type of alloy the manufacturer uses to make thier hooks.

It may dissolve because of the fishes corrosive stomach acids. In a human, it would eventually break down due to the same principle as acid burning through wood. Also, if it is a saltwater fish, the natural sea salt that it consumes will aid in the corrosive properties of the acid. Really hope it helps.

I have never heard of a fish hook dissolving . Now the fish might. But the hook would still be there.

Ridiculous, how can some made of steel dissove if left in a fish? It would take decades of oxidation to fully disintegrate a fishhook.

I doubt it. It's metal. I don't think it would dissolve inside a human either.

no tey dont dissolve they eventually rust out sometimes causing infection

Fish cannot swallow the hooks.It will be hanged on his upper palate. I think it may cause his death.
