yes its true.the hooks are made of a special alloy to make them strong, but this alloy also dissolves rather quicly if fish swallows the hook and it can't be removed without harming the fish.it may take a few months to a year ; depending on the name brand of the hook and what type of alloy the manufacturer uses to make thier hooks.

It may dissolve because of the fishes corrosive stomach acids. In a human, it would eventually break down due to the same principle as acid burning through wood. Also, if it is a saltwater fish, the natural sea salt that it consumes will aid in the corrosive properties of the acid. Really hope it helps.

opt for a combating fish (Betta) or some guppies. A betta is amazingly low upkeep, yet would not go properly with different fish (pretty of it is own variety). you'll get nutrition pretty for them that often prices about a similar as time-honored fish nutrition. only be confident to feed it small quantities at a time (to avert cloudy water) and do not positioned it is bowl or tank the position the water is going to get chilly. Guppies want warmth water, a minimum of one million gallon in line with fish, and are very energetic. be confident to ask for below men (they have longer, more effective colourful fins and function a sharp fin on their underside) in case you do not favor to have bunches of them. they're positive with time-honored tropical fish nutrition.

Ridiculous, how can some made of steel dissove if left in a fish? It would take decades of oxidation to fully disintegrate a fishhook.

I doubt it. It's metal. I don't think it would dissolve inside a human either.
